Walk and Talk Therapy
Experience something new…
I have a limited number of WALK AND TALK sessions weekly that usually fill up very quickly. WALK AND TALK therapy is just what it sounds: we have a session while walking outside instead of sitting at the office.
We would meet in a nearby park or at the lakefront and walk at your pace in nature, while talking about what is going on with your life.
There are numerous benefits to WALK AND TALK sessions; here are some of my personal favorites:
- It gets you moving. Your body takes in more oxygen and your serotonin levels automatically increase.
- It allows you to be in control of the walking pace and the pace of the session.
- It helps with anxiety – it’s easier to talk while looking in the same direction instead of staring at the face.
- Because it is such a multisensory experience, it works particularly well with “cerebral” people –
those used to dealing with the world by thinking instead of feeling. - It also helps with grief – outdoors offers a sense of aliveness as a counterpoint to an all-consuming experience of pain and loss.
Frequently Asked Questions about WALK AND TALK THERAPY
We walk in any weather that you find pleasant. We can walk in the rain (with umbrellas) or when it’s cold or windy, as long as it’s safe to be outside.
What if we run into someone we know?
This is something that we discuss upfront. It can be an interruption but not an impediment. The burden of confidentiality is entirely on me, not on my patient. Most patients choose not to introduce me at all, let alone as their therapist, but it’s up to you.
If I see someone I know, I will say “hello” and move on.
Can I wear sunglasses?
You can wear whatever you find comfortable, including sunglasses. In the bright sun, I will wear see-through darker prescription glasses that will still allow you to see my eyes.
Where and when do these sessions take place?
I am an early riser. In the summer, we can meet at dawn – I’ve been known to start as early as 5 a.m. to meet sunrise together at Lee Street beach. Otherwise, we walk at daylight, usually around the lakefront.
How much does the session cost?
$300 – 60-minute outdoor WALK AND TALK session.
